My good fortune to serve as CM for 4 years: CM

In his last Press conference as the chief minister of Uttarakhand, Trivendra Singh Rawat said that serving the state for four years as the chief minister was a golden opportunity for him. Addressing the media after tendering his resignation to the governor Baby Rani Maurya, the outgoing CM said that he had been active for a long time in politics, starting from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and then the Bharatiya Janata Party. He said, “Coming from a small village where about seven to eight families live at present, I was very fortunate to get the opporutunity to serve the state as its chief minister for four years. Being the son of an ex-soldier from a small villager, I had never imagined that I would get the opportunity to serve at this level. It is only in the BJP that a person like me can become the CM.”

Speaking about his resignation, he said that following joint discussion and decision in the party he felt that he should give someone else the opportunity to serve in the position of the CM.  Rawat said, “I thank the people of Uttarakhand for the cooperation they have given. In my term- nine days short of four years- the state government has taken various major steps in the spheres of self employment, education and health among others. I would not have been able to undertake these steps had not the party given me the opportunity to serve the people as their chief minister. We took major decisions like according co-ownership right to women in the ancestral property of their husband and launched the CM Ghasyari Kalyan Yojana. I wish my successor the best and hope that he will effectively carry forwar these initiatives.”

Regarding the reason for his resignation, Rawat said that the decision was taken collectively after deliberations. On being asked to explain further he told the journalists that they would have to ask Delhi for a better answer. He also informed that the meeting the BJP legislature party would be held at 10 AM on Wednesday.

BJP state president Banshidhar Bhagat, state minister Dhan Singh Rawat, MLA Harbansh Kapoor and others were also present on the occasion.
