With the winter closure of the Badrinath temple portal, the Nagar Panchayat embarked on an extensive cleaning drive to restore the sacred shrine and its surroundings to their pristine state. A dedicated team of 50 Paryavaran Mitras participated in the operation, collecting 1.5 tonnes of waste through an intensive two-day cleaning campaign in key areas such as Brahma Kapal, Astha Path, Tapt Kund, Main Bazaar and Mana village. A Nagar Panchayat official said that they go all-out to preserve the sanctity and cleanliness of the revered shrine. “We will never be found wanting in this matter,” he said, adding that the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had also appreciated their efforts in maintaining the sanctity of the shrine.
Notably, this year, the Nagar Panchayat Badrinath collected a total of 180.70 tonnes of garbage during the entire Yatra period. From this, the Panchayat earned an income of Rs eight lakh by selling 110.97 tonnes of waste. Additionally, the Panchayat generated revenue of Rs 29.82 lakh from Mana parking, Rs 1.03 crore from eco fees, Rs 28 lakh from helicopter operations and Rs eight lakh from usage charges.
The portals of Badrinath temple were closed for the six winter months on November 17.
