Nainital administration appoints nodal officers to check works of civic bodies and Irrigation Dept
Monday, 10 JUNE 2024 | PNS | NAINITALAfter getting various complaints regarding unclean drains, canals and blocked sewers despite the claims of the municipal bodies and the Irrigation department that they have cleaned them, the Nainital district administration appointed nodal officers for the physical verification of all these works in the urban areas of the district. The additional district magistrate Shivcharan Dwivedy said that municipal bodies and the irrigation department clean garbage and silt from drains, canals and sewers every year before the onset of monsoon to ensure proper flow of rainwater to prevent flooded roads and areas that cause great inconvenience to locals as well as tourists. Though these bodies have been claiming that they have started the work, the administration has been getting they have allegedly not carried out these duties properly. Considering this, the administration appointed nodal officers for the physical verification of cleaning of drains, canals and sewers under the municipal bodies of Haldwani, Ramnagar, Bhimtal, Lalkuan, Kaladhungi and Nainital. He said that the nodal officers will have to complete the verification process between June 15 and June 20. They will also submit their report regarding the work along with photographs. The administration will provide a briefing session to nodal officers about the task on June 14. The ADM said that the officials concerned of the respective civic bodies and the irrigation department will be able to withdraw their salary for this month only if the administration finds the work report of their respective areas satisfactory.
