In latest Uttarakhand news, a demonstration was held against the recent atrocities committed on women in Manipur under the banner of Nainital People’s Forum at Gandhi Chowk in Tallital. While participating in the demonstration, the statehood activist Rajiv Lochan Shah demanded the Centre to initiate a high-level inquiry into the inhumane crime as shown in a video. He expressed regret over the fact that despite the perpetrators of the crime being identified, no action has been taken against them yet. “While the Centre keeps flaunting its Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme the number of heinous crimes being committed on the girls and the women are on the rise across the country,” he said and suggested capital punishment be given to such criminals to curb the rising graph of crimes against women.
Others who spoke during the demonstration expressed anguish over the Centre and the State governments miserably failing to control such crimes. They stressed on the Centre bringing about a stringent law to ensure security of the women. Among others, Padma Shri awardee Sekhar Pathak was present during the demonstration.
