Nainital ready for tourists amidst Omicron fear

After a slump of about two years, those in the tourism business are optimistic with tourists arriving for Christmas and New Year’s celebration in Nainital. Considering the Covid risk, the local administration is checking test reports and vaccination certificates of tourists at the border. The police have also met hoteliers to discuss crowd and traffic management in the coming days. With restrictions on celebrations in Delhi and Mumbai due to rising Omicron cases, the number of tourists arriving in Uttarakhand has increased.
Nainital district magistrate Dhiraaj Garbyal has said that people can come to Nainital and enjoy nature but also asked them to follow the government’s Covid guidelines. Nainital hotel association head Dinesh Sah said that the fraternity is hopeful of good business this year. The arrival of tourists has also enthused the boat operators, taxi drivers and owners of hospitality enterprises though the Omicron variant is causing some anxiety. Ma Naina Devi Nainital Vyapar Mandal head Punit Tandon said that the city is ready for tourists. He appealed to the visitors to enjoy their time while following government guidelines.
The boat operators association head Ram Singh said that daily wagers are facing problems for two years now. This season has raised hopes for brisk business. The taxi association head Niraj Joshi said that the taxi business has been hit by Covid for two years. The taxi operators will get much relief if the business is good this season. Nainital hotel association senior vice president Digvijay Bisht also reiterated the importance of following the government guidelines.
