The Swaraj Ashram in Haldwani which was a hub of activity during the freedom movement resounded with slogans of Congress party workers welcoming the party’s Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar Lok Sabha constituency candidate Prakash Joshi here on Friday. Joshi also interacted with the locals in the main bazaar of Haldwani. Stating that he will always remain thankful for the support he is getting within a short period of being announced as the party candidate, Joshi said that this constituency has remained bereft of development during the past 10 years. One can gauge the level of development in the constituency considering the condition of the village adopted by the Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar MP, he said.  Joshi said, “The sitting MP has spent only 40 per cent of his local area development fund in his five-year term, which shows his apathy towards the developmental concerns of the constituency.”

Leader of opposition in the Vidhan Sabha, Yashpal Arya said that the people are fed up with 10 years of BJP in power and have decided to bring about a change. The Haldwani MLA Sumit Hridayesh said that the youth will respond to being duped through the Agnipath scheme with their votes.

Former MLAs Sanjeev Arya and Jeet Ram said that the booth level workers of the Congress are the strength of the party. On the basis of this strength, the Congress will uproot the “anti-development” BJP from the Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar constituency, they said.
