The Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) in association with astro tourism company Starscapes, will launch ‘Nakshatra Sabha’, India’s first-ever annual campaign dedicated exclusively to promoting astro tourism. This campaign will be held at the George Everest estate in Mussoorie from May 31 to June 2. According to UTDB officials, Nakshatra Sabha promises a holistic astro tourism experience with activities including stargazing, special solar observations, astrophotography contest, camping under the stars and much more.
In the astro tourism event starting in Mussoorie, 84 participants will stay overnight in the camps at the venue to gain experience and witness the beauty of the universe through special equipment. Along with this, more than 100 participants have been registered to participate in various day activities to be organised from June 1. After this event, astro tourism events will also be organised in places like Harshil-Jadung, Benital, Rishikesh, Jageshwar, Ramnagar and other locations throughout the year. This will cover dark sky potential sites in the districts of Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Nainital and Chamoli besides seminars and webinars with experts. This initiative aims to bring together astronomy enthusiasts and travellers to witness the beauty of the universe. Officials further informed that the campaign also offers professional training and skill development opportunities to local residents, with an aim to enhance local economies. The Starscapes team will actively collaborate with local communities, travel and tourism partners, as well as homestay communities, providing training and ongoing support to ensure successful implementation of these initiatives.
