Nanakmatta Gurudwara chief murdered by assailants

The Dera Kar Sewa Pramukh of Nanakmatta Gurudwara, Tarsem Singh was shot dead by an assailant riding pillion on a motorcycle in Udham Singh Nagar’s Nanakmatta at about 6:15 AM on Thursday. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) including the Special Task Force (STF) and the district police has been formed to investigate the matter, the officiating director general of police Abhinav Kumar said. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also expressed his condolence on Singh’s death and instructed the DGP to take strict action against the culprits.
The Udham Singh Nagar senior superintendent of police Manjunath TC said that as per the CCTV footage of the murder, Singh was shot twice with a rifle by the pillion rider when he was sitting on a chair and using his phone. He said that Singh was sitting on a chair in the compound of the dera when two men, wearing turbans, entered the premises on a motorcycle and one of them fired at him. The accused shot twice within three seconds and fled the scene. Singh was taken to the hospital in Khatima where he died during treatment. “We have clear pictures and videos of both the culprits. Eight to 10 police teams are dedicatedly working to nab the killers. All top investigators of the district have been mobilised.
The Special Operations Group (SOG) and Special Task Force (STF) are also involved in the investigation. The DGP is taking regular updates about the incident and has made all resources available to us,” SSP said. The assailants were reportedly staying in the Nanakmatta Gurudwara for the past eight days. The police have recovered their identity cards according to which they belong to Punjab. The police are investigating whether the IDs are fake. TC also added that the police along with district administration are working to maintain law and order in the area and appealed to the people to stay calm and patient during this unfortunate time.
The DGP also said, “This is a serious incident. The Nanakmatta Gurudrawa is one of the main religious sites in the State and the killing there is a matter of concern for us. We have to identify the assailants but also expose any possible conspiracy. We have also reached out to central agencies to share if they have any useful information regarding the incident.”
