Saturday, 18 September 2021 | PNS | Nainital
The 119th Nanda Devi Mahotsav concluded with the ritual immersion of the idols of goddesses Nanda and Sunanda here on Friday.
Organised jointly by the Shri Ram Sevak Sabha and the district administration, the Nanda Devi Mahotsav saw devotees paying obeisance to the goddesses in considerable numbers and various cultural presentations also being held apart from the religious rituals. Though only groups of 20 devotees each were allowed by the authorities to enter the Naina Devi temple to pay obeisance to the goddesses, a large number of devotees offered their prayers on the goddesses.
On the last day of the festival, a cultural troupe from Almora performed outside the Naina Devi temple. Other performances including renditions of devotions songs were also telecast live on television. The goddesses were taken out in a ceremonious procession across the city after which the idols were immersed in the lake here. The last day of the Mahotsav also saw members of the Anjuman-e-Baltistani Shia community offering water at the Tallital rickshaw stand to the devotees coming to offer their prayers to the goddesses.
The organising body, Shri Ram Sevak Sabha thanked the district administration, municipality, Ma Naina Devi Amar Uday Trust and the devotees along with the media for cooperating in successful conduct of the festival.
