NARI survey on women safety: Congress questions NSCW chairwoman Kandwal

PIONEEREDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

The Congress has taken strong objection to the statement of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) chairwoman Kusum Kandwal in which she said that no survey was conducted for the National Annual Report and Index (NARI)-2025 on women safety.

The chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Garima Dasauni said that the report of the survey conducted by the NARI is in public domain and it was released in presence of the chairwoman of the National Commission for Women. She added that the findings of the survey were carried in all major newspapers and news channels. Dasauni said that both the chairwoman of USCW and the president of BJP State women wing Asha Nautiyal have said that no such survey was done by NARI which is laughable. “I will request both these women leaders of BJP to use their brain and not become mere puppets in the hands of others,’’ Dasauni said.

She added that Dehradun was placed among the worst ten cities out of 31 on women safety in the survey which once used to be very safe and peaceful and was the first choice of people for settling in.

Dasauni said that in recent years many cases of rape and harassment of women were reported in Dehradun.  One physically challenged girl was gang raped in a bus in ISBT and the parents of Ankita Bhandari have not yet got the justice, she said.

The Congress leader said that the State BJP government has failed completely in ensuring women safety in Uttarakhand. Despite tall claims of the government, the women are not feeling safe in the State. The report of NARI suggests that there is a great schism between the Policing, governance and the public faith in Uttarakhand.
