The three-day National Conference on Living with Nature: Soil , Water and Society in Ecosystem Conservation ( LNSWSEC-2024) commenced at the Himalayan Cultural Centre, Dehradun on Thursday. The event is being organised by the Indian Association for Soil and Water Conservation (IASWC) in collaboration with ICAR -Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation (ICAR-IISWC).
The Speaker of Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly, Ritu Khanduri Bhushan inaugurated the conference and emphasised the importance of converting research into practical applications that benefit farmers and stakeholders instead of being limited to academic publications and awards. While highlighting the proactive nature of the people and farmers of Uttarakhand she underscored the need for clear, scientifically backed guidance to conserve resources and enhance livelihoods. She also suggested integrating traditional knowledge, culture and wisdom of elders into modern conservation practices to promote sustainable living with nature.
While a message from the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, wishing success to the conference, was read out the director general, UCOST Durgesh Pant described Uttarakhand as a Solution State as significant knowledge creation takes place in its prestigious institutions. The general manager, NABARD Dehradun, Suman Kumar discussed NABARD’s role in technology development and dissemination while the director, ICAR-IISWC M Madhu presented the scientific and technological achievements of ICAR-IISWC and highlighted the significance of organising this conference on the importance of living with nature.
Notably, 25 scientists were felicitated for their outstanding work. Besides, around 350 scientists and scholars from ICAR institutes , State Agricultural Universities , national agencies like NBA and international agencies like INBAR along with 150 progressive farmers from different areas of the State are participating in the conference.
