Volunteers registered for the upcoming 38th National Games will be briefed about their responsibilities during the Youth Day programme at Gaulapar Sports Complex in Haldwani on January 12. Informing about this, Sports and Youth Welfare minister Rekha Arya said that this year’s Youth Day programme will be special as it coincides with Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary on January 12, 2025, in Haldwani. She emphasised that the event is linked to the National Games as the life philosophy of Swami Vivekananda serves as an excellent source of inspiration for the youth volunteers.
Arya said that during the event, she will discuss responsibilities with thousands of registered volunteers and provide them with certificates. She added that there will also be men’s and women’s races organised during the event. Additionally, performances of group folk dance and artistic Yoga will also take place. The Swami Vivekananda State Level Youth Award for 2024-25 will also be presented during this event, she said.
Arya provided more details about the go-green initiative, stating that all empty mineral water bottles used by players, coaches, support staff and spectators during the upcoming National Games will be collected and recycled. The recycled plastic will then be used to make chairs and benches for parks and other public areas. The Sports minister further added that the organisation responsible for this work had been invited to demonstrate the recycling process during the Youth Day programme.
