National Sports Day: CM Dhami launches sports scholarship scheme for upcoming players

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched the ambitious ‘Mukhyamantri Udaimaan Khiladi Unnayan Yojana (MUKUY) on the occasion of National Sports Day on Monday. The scheme plans to encourage and upgrade the upcoming players in different sports in the State. Speaking in a programme, organised at Police Lines, Dehradun on the day, the CM said that the State government had announced sports scholarships and the decision has been implemented. He said that the BJP government delivers whatever it promises. Dhami said that in the MUKUY, a scholarship of Rs 1500 per month would be given to upcoming players of eight to 14 years of age. This scholarship would be provided to 3900 emerging players that include 1950 boys and equal number of girls. The CM declared that in view of the shortage of coaches in the State, eight sports coaches in every district would be appointed. He said that the remunerations of the coaches appointed on contract would be increased. The CM also announced setting up of a Chief Minister Sports Development Fund for promotion of sports in the State. He said that the State government would try to reintroduce the four per cent reservation in government jobs to sports persons.

Dhami said that there could be no better than the National Sports day, the birthday of legendary Dhyan Chand to launch the MUKUY. He said that one should understand that Dhyan Chand provided an identity to India when sports infrastructure in the country was for namesake only.

He said that the State government has implemented the new Sports Policy with an objective of providing support to the players and to ensure that the State becomes a sporting power in the country. He said that the State government has approved a 100 per cent increase in the cash prizes to the players winning medals in national and international levels. Apart from felicitating the sportspersons with Rajya Khel Puraskar, Dev Bhoomi Khel Ratna, Uttarakhand Dronacharya Puraskar and Himalayan Khel Ratna Puraskar the State government had made arrangement for out of turn promotions to the sports persons in the government jobs, he said. He claimed that the transparency in the selection of players has increased and talented players are getting every opportunity. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a major initiative for promoting sports in the country and the Khelo India scheme is a very good example of this approach of the PM. Dhami said that our sports persons are winning a record number of medals in the Olympics, Commonwealth and events and increasing the confidence of the countrymen.

 The Sports Minister Rekha Arya said that MUKUY shows the commitment of the State government for promotion of sports in the State. She said that many national and state level sports grounds are being prepared in the State which would provide an impetus to the environment of sports in Uttarakhand.

 Dharampur MLA Vinod Chamoli, additional chief secretary Radha Raturi, special principal secretary, sports Abhinav Kumar, director sports G S Rawat and others were present on the occasion.
