Nat’l seminar on Indian traditional knowledge concludes at KU

While addressing the closing session of the two-day national seminar on ‘Indian traditional thought and knowledge: Possibilities from political ecology’, held at UGC Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre, Kumaun University, Nainital, the director, KU’s DSB campus, Prof Neeta Bora Sharma said that traditional ecological knowledge and beliefs being nurtured by the indigenous communities seeks to establish harmony with the environment, adding that such knowledge- transmitted orally or experientially from generation to generation- is deeply embedded in cultural traditions, spiritual beliefs and social systems. The director, Visiting Professor Directorate, KU, Prof. Lalit Tiwari said that that Ayurvedic medical system- important in Indian knowledge tradition-needs more research from the Indian perspective, stressing on the need to connect traditional knowledge with modern scientific innovations.
