Need to sensitize people, placement agencies for safe & legal migration: CS

Chief secretary Radha Raturi has said that there is a need to provide information to the students going abroad for education, sensitisation of placement agencies, safe and legal migration, marital disputes and data sharing of migrants. She was addressing the Videsh Sampark- State outreach conference here on Friday. The programme was organised under joint aegis of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and government of Uttarakhand.
She said that the conference will help in providing information to the officers and different stakeholders about the efforts being made by the government for the migrants. Raturi said that the state government has constituted a migrant cell for the benefit of the migrant population.
The CS said that the State administration should also know about the best practices of other States for welfare and benefit of the migrants. She added that there is a need to understand the process of registration of students and workers. Cyber crime is also a major challenge, she said.
Speaking on the occasion the secretary (CPV and OIA,) ministry of foreign affairs, Arun Kumar Chatterjee said that the Videsh Sampark programme is an important initiative of the ministry and its objective is to strengthen relationships with the Indian Diaspora. He informed that such conferences have so far been held in Punjab, Haryana, Telangana, Maharashtra, Kerala, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka with the support of State governments.
Joint Secretary (DE) ministry of foreign affairs Ankan Banerjee held discussions on issues related to students, women, rights of NRI and PIO, schemes of foreign ministry and compilation of data.
Joint Secretary (CPV), ministry of foreign affairs, Binoy George elaborated on transportation of mortal remains of Indian residents dying in foreign countries, grievance portal, process of counselor excess at the State level, verification of nationality and deportation of prisoners.
Elaborate discussions were held in the conference on the issues of migrants and solutions for their problems.
The chairperson of Uttarakhand State Commission for Women Kusum Kandwal, additional chief secretary Anand Bardhan, secretaries of all the department, district magistrates and senior officers of police attended the conference.
