Negi instructs WECD dept to establish rehabilitation homes in every district under Ujjawala scheme
In a meeting conducted by the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) to review all the ongoing programmes and schemes running under the Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) department, the SCPCR chairperson Usha Negi instructed the department to establish rehabilitation homes for the victims of human trafficking in every district of Uttarakhand.
Officials related to various schemes updated Negi about the progress of the schemes across the State. She said that under child protection scheme, the department is constructing an after care home for females over 18 years of age in Almora district while a shelter home for boys in Dehradun is also under consideration. She said that there are only 30 children’s homes in the State out of which five are operated by the government while the remaining 25 homes are run by non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
Moreover, Negi also directed the WECD department to establish rehabilitation homes under Ujjawala Scheme to facilitate the rehabilitation of women and children who have been the victims of human trafficking. Various schemes including Beti Bachao Beti Padao, Anganwadi schemes and one-stop centre programme were also discussed and reviewed in the meeting.
