The Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) minister Rekha Arya said that the department will not tolerate any form of negligence when it comes to the safety of women. She said this in response to a recent incident reported by the media wherein a minor girl was allegedly raped in a protection home located in Haldwani.
According to media reports, two women took the minor girl out of the protection home and she was then allegedly raped outside the premises. Subsequently, the girl was brought back to the shelter and beaten in an attempt to conceal the incident.
Taking this matter seriously, Arya has suspended the assistant of the home, Deepa Arya, pending an investigation into the allegations. She emphasised that the department would not tolerate such negligence in ensuring the safety of women. Further, the Home Guard Ganga has been sent back to the department from the protection home. Additionally, a two-member committee has been established to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter as soon as possible, she said.
Arya further stated that both the department and the police are conducting an investigation into the incident and will undertake stringent measures against the culprit.
