Defence minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated 75 infrastructural projects of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) across the nation, including nine in Uttarakhand on Saturday. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the programme virtually. The nine projects inaugurated in the State include the Karcha bridge, Meeng Gadera bridge, Ghastoli bridge, Pagalnala bridge and the office and accommodation under Project Shivalik at Dehradun in the Garhwal region in addition to Suringghat bridge, Chimla bridge, Painagarh bridge and Gosigarh bridge in the Kumaon region.

Dhami thanked the Defence minister for inaugurating the projects in Uttarakhand. The CM said that these infrastructural projects will be especially useful in the uplift of distant and deprived areas of the State. By enhancing connectivity and boosting socio-economic development, these projects will help in changing the scenario in the State. “These projects will boost tourism and the local economy while also creating important opportunities for employment generation. The development of rural communities will receive a fillip while also improving connectivity to the remote border areas which will enable economic development in strategically important areas and strengthen the nation’s defence capabilities,” the CM said.

These new bridges will improve the connectivity and reduce the travel time which will boost religious and general tourism while also encouraging cultural exchange, enabling the development of the State into a major tourist destination, Dhami added.
