The Uttarakhand Congress has strongly condemned the decision of the State government to reduce the price of liquor. Terming the decision as unfortunate the PCC president Karan Mahara said on Tuesday that the new excise policy of the State would prove to be a failure.
The policy favours the liquor mafia and encourages the smuggling of liquor, he said. Mahara said that it is unfortunate that while the government is increasing the tariffs on electricity, drinking water and affecting an increase in prices of cooking gas cylinders, books, stationery and travel in buses of the State roadways, the price of liquor is being reduced. He alleged that a conspiracy is being planned to make Devbhoomi Uttarakhand a ‘liquor land’.
