New technologies to be used for crowd control & security in Kumbh
Uttarakhand director general of police Ashok Kumar chaired an inter-state coordination meeting regarding the Kumbh Mela 2021 to be held in Haridwar. The meeting was attended by officials from Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Jammu-Kashmir, NIA, RPF and intelligence bureau.
Addressing the officials, the DGP said that coordination will be needed to ensure successful conduct of the Shahi Snans. He informed that the police will use various new technologies for crowd control and security in this Kumbh Mela. In addition to CCTV cameras and drone cameras to keep an alert eye on the entire Mela area, artificial intelligence tools will also be used. Compared to the last Kumbh, social media will also be used on a large scale in this Kumbh Mela. Considering this, a social media monitoring cell will also be established to check communal and objectionable social media posts, he said.
Publicity of SOPs issued by the central and state governments, bar on VIP movement on the day of Shahi Snan, sharing of intelligence, important role of bordering states in traffic diversion and other issues were also discussed in the meeting.
