New treatment facilities inaugurated at GDMC hospital

More than 300 new nursing staff to join GDMC this month: Rawat

More than half a dozen new services were inaugurated at the Government Doon Medical College Hospital here by the Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat on Saturday. He said that at a time when the number of patients arriving here is rising consistently, the expansion in services will enable swifter and better treatment.
The facilities inaugurated include laser surgery, next generation e-hospital, OPD help desk, colour Doppler ultrasound level II, blood sampling and reporting counter along with separate OPD registration on the third floor for medicine, respiratory medicine, ophthalmology department and dentistry department. With this, the patients visiting the departments on the third flood will not have to register at the ground floor. The minister also announced that March 31, more than 300 nursing staff will join and begin their services at the GDMC.
Rawat expressed pride in inaugurating new facilities for patients at GDMC hospital, noting that approximately 3,000 patients visit the hospital regularly and will benefit from these improvements. He highlighted the ongoing shortage of nursing staff and stated that measures have been taken to address this issue, with the new staff expected to join by the end of March. These nurses will provide services well as they have years of experience in this. He also said that many vacant positions, including those for pharmacists and ward boys, have been filled recently.
The minister further informed that interviews for professors and assistant professors would soon be conducted, ensuring that 30 per cent of vacant faculty positions would be filled within three months. Rawat emphasised that consistent efforts are being made to enhance services at GDMC, including the release of funds in the past year, with an additional Rs 50 crore allocated to further improve services.
Additionally, he also talked about the plans to resolve long-standing issues such as parking problems in the coming months and the hiring of 30 to 40 security guards for enhanced safety at GDMC hospital. Rawat stated that the State government is dedicated to enhancing medical facilities. As part of this initiative, the government has decided to establish two new departments- Neurology and Gastroenterology at GDMC.
During the event, several GDMC officials communicated issues to the Health minister, who assured that these problems would be addressed promptly.
