NIEPVD opens seats for visually fit students in class XI

To improve support for students with visual impairments, the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD) has allocated 10 seats for visually fit students in the maths and science stream for the first time in class XI. Informing about this, the principal of NIEPVD Amit Sharma announced that the registration process for admissions within the institute has begun. This process commenced on February 10 and will end on March 15. For the first time, the NIEPVD has opened registration for students who are not visually impaired, in class XI for the maths and science stream, reserving a total of 20 seats—10 for visually impaired students and 10 for visually fit students. The selection process for non-visually impaired students for class XI will take place after the board results are announced, he said.

Sharma further said that the aim of reserving spots and facilitating admissions for non-visually impaired students in class XI is to address the recent emphasis on mathematics and science within the curriculum for this grade. However, visually impaired students often encounter challenges in laboratory settings and others. By including non-visually impaired students, it is hoped that they will provide assistance to their visually impaired peers. Additionally, given that private school fees can be quite high, this initiative offers financial support to non-visually impaired students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Additionally, he said that the admission process has also begun for other classes. Specifically, 10 seats have been reserved for Bal Vatika, while for classes I, II, III, IV, V and IX, there are five, three, one, two, and 10 seats reserved, respectively.

He emphasised that there are no available seats for classes V, VII and VIII. He stated that once the registration process for admissions is completed, the selection procedure for shortlisting students will begin. This selection will take place through an online test, he said.
