Night curfew in place due to risk of leopard attack

The Pauri district magistrate Ashish Chauhan has ordered to impose restrictions on the movement of residents in Srikot, Dikhwalgaon, Sarnaa, Bhugani, Jalatha and Matolee villages from 6 PM evening to 6 AM due to the risk of leopard attack. The restrictions will remain in place till Friday night. It is pertinent to mention here that a leopard killed two children in the Khirsu block within a duration of 24 hours on February 3 and 4. The Srinagar sub divisional magistrate stated in the report to the DM that 11-year-old Ankit Singh of Gwar village in Khirsu block was killed by a leopard on February 3 while four-year-old Ayan Ansari in Srinagar was killed on February 4 by a big cat. A leopard is active in many places of the Khirsu block of the Srinagar Tehsil.
The leopard has been sighted and its sawing has been heard Nursery Road to Pauri bus stop and on Bughani Road in Srinagar on the early morning of February 6. On the same day in the evening a leopard killed a cow near Ganga Darshan. The SDM sent a report to the district magistrate for the night curfew up to February 9. The Garhwal divisional forest officer has also mentioned a few more villages where there is possibility of leopard attack.
It is pertinent to mention here that various factors including expanding human settlements have resulted in a rise in human-leopard conflicts in various parts of the State in recent times. The authorities are trying to capture the leopards involved in such conflict situations in different parts of the State.
