The BBA State coordinator Suresh Uniyal informed that a rescue operation was undertaken recently to rescue children from labour and beggary. Nine children were rescued from beggary and one was rescued from labour in the ISBT area in Dehradun. Further, three females who were accompanied by toddlers while engaging in begging were also rescued at the same location, he added.
He further informed that the rescued children and females were taken to the police station for data entry and an FIR has been registered against the owner who forced the rescued child into labour.
The children were handed over to the child welfare committee after undergoing medical check up. Additionally, the Education department, along with experts, has provided counselling to these children. Uniyal said, “The instances of child labor and child begging have increased due to various reasons, such as lack of awareness, illiteracy and inadequate knowledge of family planning in the State.”
