NMOPS commences multiphase protest against Unified Pension Scheme

Friday, 30 AUGUST 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The national movement for the old pension scheme (NMOPS) has started a multiphase protest against the unified pension scheme (UPS) offered by the union government for the employees covered under the new pension scheme (NPS).

On Thursday, the members of the association demanding restoration of the OPS posted comments on the social media platform X ( formerly Twitter) against the UPS and in support of OPS. The president of the Uttarakhand chapter of NMOPS Jeetmani Painyuli said that in the first week of September the block units of the NMOPS will meet the respective sub district magistrates (SDM) and submit a memorandum. Similarly the district units will meet the district magistrates (DM) to submit the memorandums. Paniyuli said that the NMOPS has given a call to all the employees and teachers to wear black armbands while discharging their duties from September 2 to 6. He said that the meeting of the national executive of the NMOPS will be organised in New Delhi on September 15.  On September 26 the employees will hold massive protests against the UPS and NPS at all the district headquarters. Painyuli said that the organisation will organise a national convention in New Delhi in the month of October for its plan to hold a protest at parliament in November or December. He said that the employees have rejected the UPS and want to get the benefit of OPS where 50 percent of the last salary drawn is given as pension along with dearness allowance (DA) and other allowances.

In the UPS the union government has decided to give a guaranteed pension to the employees covered under the NPS. Under this a pension equal to 50 per cent of the last basic salary drawn will be given after completion of 25 years of service.
