Five dead bodies along with other missing trekkers remained trapped in the Sunderdhunga Glacier trek of Bageshwar district on Friday as the authorities could not conduct search operations through choppers due to bad weather.
As per the report of the district administration, 34 tourists were reported to be trapped in the Pindari Glacier trek, 20 villagers in the Kafni Glacier trek and 10 tourists in the Sunderdhunga Glacier trek of Bageshwar. One of the porters who accompanied the trekkers in the Sunderdhunga Glacier trek informed the administration on his return that five trekkers have died on the said route and one is still missing. While all the people trapped in the first two treks have been rescued, the Bageshwar district magistrate Vineet Kumar informed that people stuck on the Sunderdhunga route could not be rescued as the chopper could not operate due to bad weather. “The NDRF along with other teams searched for the missing people in the Sunderdhunga trek but nobody was found so far. We will use the choppers for rescue operation if the weather allows us on Saturday,” added the DM.
