No decision on party tickets yet- Pritam Singh

In yet another twist to the ongoing power struggle in the Uttarakhand unit of the Congress party, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Pritam Singh has contradicted the statement of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president on party tickets for upcoming assembly elections. The PCC president Ganesh Godiyal had said in Jaspur that the party has finalised 38 tickets for the upcoming assembly elections. When asked by the media persons to comment on the statement made by the PCC president, the LoP Pritam Singh said here on Wednesday that he has no knowledge that some tickets have been finalised. He said that tickets are finalised by a process and every one would have to pass through the process. Singh said that a committee consisting of PCC president, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader, in charge and co- in-charge decides on the party tickets. “Since I am the CLP leader and part of the committee, I can surely say that no tickets have been finalised as yet,’’ he said.
The utterance of Pritam Singh assumes significance since the PCC president Godiyal had said that all sitting MLAs would be given party tickets and 38 tickets have been finalised. It is pertinent to mention that after the death of Indira Hridayesh the then PCC President Pritam Singh was asked to vacate the post for Ganesh Godiyal. Singh was made CLP leader and LoP by the party. Godiyal is considered a staunch supporter of former chief minister and general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Harish Rawat. The camps headed by Harish Rawat who has been made the head of election campaign committee and LoP Pritam Singh are engaging in a power struggle that comes to fore every now and then.
