No Entry board installed in another village for outsiders

Thursday, 03 October 2024 | PNS | RUDRAPRAYAG

In latest news from Uttarakhand, in tune with the trend continuing in some villages across Uttarakhand, residents of a village in Rudraprayag district put a ban on the entry of ‘outsiders’ without identity proof. The people made it clear that the ban is meant to stop unidentified vendors from entering the village. The panchayat chief of Kanda-Bhardar village, Amit Rawat said that they had put up notices at three entry points to the village, announcing that unidentified people, particularly vendors from other states, would be fined Rs 5000 each if they were found in the village.

A senior police officer Prabodh Ghildiyal, when asked to comment, said that the village panchayat is free to take such a decision for the safety of their residents. “Police cannot intervene unless there is any mention of any caste or community on the notice boards,” he added.

Notably, police had intervened in September, forcing the residents of Nyalsu village in Rudraprayag district to remove the notice boards which mentioned ‘non-Hindus and Rohingya Muslims’.

The panchayat chief of Nyalsu Pramod Singh said they had again put up the boards after removing the names of the communities.
