Uttarakhand levies a tax of Rs 19 or 25 per cent of the price whichever is higher on every litre of diesel and higher of Rs 10.41 or 17.48 per cent on every litre of petrol sold in the state. This information was given by the parliamentary affairs minister, Banshidhar Bhagat while replying to a question by Congress MLA Qazi Nizamuddin during question hour on Tuesday. He said that the state imposes a SGST of nine per cent on cooking gas.
He curtly said that the state has no proposal and plan to reduce tax on petrol, diesel and LPG. Qazi had demanded that the state government should reduce its tax on fossil fuels to decrease the burden on the general public.
