No prior appointment needed for new applicants of LLs

The regional transport office (RTO) of Dehradun has removed the condition of reserving the time to arrive in RTO through online appointments for the new applicants of learner license (LL). When the RTO resumed its services in June, the public was asked to take appointments for services like vehicles permits, challan, LLs and permanent driving licenses (DLs) etc to reserve the timings to limit the number of visitors in the RTO premises as a precautionary measure against Covid-19.
The RTO removed this condition of prior appointment in other services due to the considerable decline in Covid cases except for LLs due to the backlog of over 10,000 applications. The regional transport officer (administration) Dinesh Chandra Pathoi recently increased new slots of LLs from 25 to 50 due to which RTO is currently processing 100 applications daily including 50 old applications. Now the RTO has also removed the condition of taking a prior online appointment to reserve the timings for the new applicants of LLs.
According to officials, the new applicants of LLs can now book the slots like before but the old applicants will have to take prior appointments to reserve the timings due to heavy backlog. Also, the officials informed that the limit to daily slots for DL is still 75 slots per day which might increase in the next two weeks.
