The mercury level has continued to rise steadily in the state with no respite in the near future. The lack of pre-monsoon activities has exacerbated the effects of the heat. The daytime temperatures are just a few degrees short of 40 degrees Celsius in the plains though the nights have still remained comparatively cool. The State meteorological centre has forecast that dry weather is likely to prevail in the districts of the state on Monday. The provisional state capital Dehradun is likely to experience mainly clear sky with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be about 37 degrees Celsius and 17 degrees Celsius respectively. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the state on Sunday were 36.8 degrees Celsius and 16.5 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 37.2 degrees Celsius and 13.9 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 25.7 degrees Celsius and 11.5 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 25.6 degrees Celsius and 13.6 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri.
