No respite from heat in Doon, rain & thunderstorms likely in mountains

After a brief spell of a few days which saw rain and comparatively lower temperatures in Dehradun, the maximum temperature has once again started remaining high in the city. The maximum temperature reached 40.2 degrees Celsius in Dehradun on Sunday, the second consecutive day when it reached 40 degrees Celsius. The weather is expected to remain similar on Monday with both the maximum and minimum temperatures expected to reach a few notches above normal. However, rain is forecast in the mountainous regions. The State meteorological centre has forecast that very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places in the higher reaches of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts on Monday. Dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts. Further, surface wind is likely to be strong and gusty (30-40 kmph) in the State’s plains today.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 40 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various places on Sunday were 40.2 degrees Celsius and 23.9 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 39.4 degrees Celsius and 23.5 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 29.4 degrees Celsius and 15.5 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 29.7 degrees Celsius and 18.4 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. Very light rain was reported in some areas with one millimetre each in Badrinath and Gangotri.
