Over 250 government schools located in remote areas in Dehradun district will receive furniture by February 25 under Project Utkarsh and no student will have to sit on the floor, the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said. He informed that the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) are supporting the district administration’s Project Utkarsh under which the government schools in remote areas will be provided modern equipment, including LED screens, furniture and other educational tools with a budget of about Rs four crore.
Bansal said that the administration aims to enhance the quality of education by integrating modern learning methods through LED screens and a Rs 3.5 crore project by HUDCO is in its final phase to execute this plan. The district administration has also allocated a budget of Rs one crore for improving basic facilities in schools, which include whiteboards, LED lights in classrooms, furniture and outdoor sports facilities. The chief education officer has also been given the responsibility of distributing funds to block education officers as per the requirements, the DM said.
He informed that the administration is also working to incorporate skill development education along with academic learning in schools. Schools will also provide newspapers, magazines, dictionaries and biographies of prominent figures to help students gain knowledge beyond textbooks. All these facilities will be provided in all government schools soon, he added.
