In an example that highlights the people’s abiding faith in the democratic system and determination to vote ignoring challenges, including age-related disabilities,   a 97-year-old    Sher Das reached his village after travelling a long distance in a palanquin and exercised his voting right.  Notably, a native of Malna village in Uttarkashi district that is a part of the Yamunotri assembly seat, he now lives in Brahmakhal town with his children. As the nonagenarian insisted to vote, the administration arranged a palanquin to take him to his village and the booth.
The district social welfare officer Sudhir Joshi himself reached Malna village to complete the arrangement. When Sher reached his village the villagers welcomed him with flowers.

The young voters of the village, who were dillydallying whether to go out to vote or not, sprang up, motivated, and reached the polling stations.  As the news reached other villages in the neighbourhood, the same happened. While applauding the indomitable democratic zest shown by a nonagenarian, Joshi urged all, particularly the young voters, to emulate his sterling example.
