Senior cabinet member, Forest and Wildlife minister Harak Singh Rawat has declared that he does not wish to contest the 2022 Assembly election. Talking to media persons on Friday, the minister said that he was not feeling like contesting the coming Assembly election and that he had informed the Bharatiya Janata Party state general secretary (organisation) Ajey Kumar about his decision. However, he also added that though he was not willing to contest the 2022 Assembly elections, there are times when personal decisions have to be changed. “It is my personal decision to not contest the 2022 Vidhan Sabha elections and I have informed the party high command about it. However, there are times when one has to change personal decisions in the interests of the party and state,” said Rawat.
It will be recalled that Rawat was a cabinet minister in the previous Congress state government under the then chief minister Harish Rawat when he and some other Congress MLAs had rebelled and joined the BJP. He contested and won the 2017 Assembly elections from the Kotdwar constituency. He had also expressed his unwillingness to contest the 2022 elections last year but his latest statement comes a few days after his removal from the post of the chairman of building and other construction workers welfare board.
