The wanted accused who had attempted to rob a house along with his gang and inflicted injuries on its owner in Dunga village of Premnagar in Dehradun on April 17 was injured in a police encounter in the wee hours of Monday. He was planning to commit robberies in the Paundha village of Sahaspur, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh claimed. He said that the police received confidential information that the notorious criminal Musharraf alias Chota would be going to mark some houses in the Premnagar area late on Sunday for his next robbery. Considering this, the police formed teams to conduct checking in Premnagar and the nearby area. During the checking at the Suddhowala Chowk, the police signalled a motorcycle to stop but the rider suddenly changed the direction of the motorcycle. When the police started chasing him, he went towards Dhakowali and left his motorcycle near a river before running towards the forest. He opened fire at the police after they continued to chase him into the forest. The police teams also started firing in self-defense in which the accused got shot in the leg. The police gave him first aid on the spot and later admitted him to the Government Doon Medical College hospital for further treatment, the SSP said. The police also recovered one pistol of 315 bore, one live cartridge and a motorcycle without a number plate. Singh said that over a dozen cases are already registered against Musharraf on charges of robbery, theft and other serious crimes. The deputy superintendent of police Pramod Kumar registered a case under IPC Number 87/24, sections 3, 25 and 27 of the Arms Act and section 307 of the Indian Penal Code against the accused in the Premnagar police station for attacking the police team, he added.
