The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is allowing people to celebrate special occasions among cows to sensitise people about stray cattle in Dehradun, said the senior municipal veterinary officer Dr DC Tiwari. He said that an assistant professor of a private college, Vrinda Sharma celebrated her birthday on Sunday among the cows at the Kanji house run by the corporation in Kedarpuram area.
She fed them jaggery and chana and also spent some quality time with the bovines. She also donated money to provide fodder for all the cattle for a day, said Tiwari.
He said that the corporation is promoting such activities to sensitise people about stray cattle, especially cows in Dehradun. People own cattle for profit but abandon them after they get old or sick but with such initiatives, the MCD aims to sensitise people towards them, added Tiwari. He said that besides taking action against the offenders, such initiatives help to generate a sense of connection between the people and stray cattle.
