In latest news from Uttarakhand, to mark the World Heart Day, a programme was organised at the B D Pandey District Hospital here. Addressing it, the noted cardiologist Dr Sudhanshu Singh said that people are falling victims of heart-related diseases due to changing lifestyle and excessive stress. Further, he suggested ways to keep the heart healthy. ‘The first thing is to stay happy under all circumstances favourable or unfavourable, keeping stress at bay,” he said.
Expressing concern over the steady surge in the number of heart patients in the city, he said that 40 to 50 patients daily throng the hospital with heart problems. “Stress is the key factor behind this spike. Even the children are not spared. They play less. Lack of outdoor physical activities coupled with study stress is triggering high blood sugar and high blood pressure complications in them which later escalate into serious heart diseases,” he said and added that smoking habit and addiction to drugs are aggravating things. “As per data, 17 per cent of the people who suffer heart attack are drug addicts,” he said.
A large number of people and several doctors were present on the occasion.
