The vice chairman of Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) Banshidhar Tiwari asked the officials to improve the rainwater harvesting facilities provided in various residential projects in Dehradun within a week after he found them substandard during an inspection on Thursday. He conducted an on-site inspection of rainwater harvesting facilities in Pacific Golf Estate and other housing buildings located on Sahastradhara Road. During the inspection, it was found that most of the projects had provision for rainwater harvesting, but these were not being operated according to the standards. Considering this, Tiwari directed the engineers to ensure that all projects meet the required standards within a week. He emphasised that the provision of rainwater harvesting must be strictly followed and warned that the MDDA would take action against anyone not complying with the regulations. Tiwari stressed on the importance of adopting rainwater harvesting to recharge groundwater. It is the need of the current times and all must adopt this practice for water conservation, he added.
