On the instructions of the Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat and the order of the commissioner of Food Safety and Drug Administration R Rajesh Kumar, a joint team comprising designated officers from several districts including Pauri, Tehri, Haridwar, Dehradun and Udham Singh Nagar and senior food safety officers conducted a special campaign for inspection and food sample collection from the retail and wholesale food vendors and food manufacturing units located along the Char Dham Yatra route and others from March 27 to April 22. The team inspected a number of hotels, resorts, restaurants, camp kitchens and food stores. During the inspection campaign, the food licences and registrations were checked by the joint team and notices were issued as per rules against those which were found deficient in complying with the rules. Outdated and misbranded food items were seized and destroyed too.
Officials informed that 117 samples of various food items like spices, milk and milk products, pulses, oil and soft drinks were collected and sent to the State Food and Drug Testing Laboratory in Rudrapur for testing. The officers said that after the report is received further proceedings would be undertaken and forwarded to the competent court as per the provisions of the Food Safety Standards Act-2006 and Rules 2011.
