The health department of the provisional state capital Dehradun is alarmed over the positive report for Covid-19 of an elderly couple who have returned to Dehradun after meeting their daughter and son in-law in Delhi who were positive for Omicron strain of Covid-19. The department is now waiting for the result of the genome sequencing report of the couple which may take some days.

The elderly couple, a resident of a housing society located on Rajpur road, had recently returned from Delhi. They had gone to Delhi to meet the family of their daughter. Their daughter and her husband had returned from Dubai and Oman respectively and were found positive for Covid-19. It was later realized that they were suffering from the Omicron variant of Covid-19. After meeting their Covid-19 (Omicron) affected daughter and son in law, the elderly couple returned by car to Dehradun and got themselves tested for Covid-19 in which they were found positive for the disease.

When the district health department got information about the couple it sent them on 14 days of isolation and took their swab sample for genome sequencing for presence of Omicron strain. It has also traced the people who had recently come into contact with the couple and taken their samples. When contacted, the chief medical officer (CMO) of Dehradun Dr Manoj Upreti told The Pioneer that the report of the genome sequencing of the sample of the couple would come in three to four days. He said that the department is on alert mode on the disease front. Meanwhile, alarmed over the development the authorities have increased the vigil on the interstate borders, bus stands and railway stations.
