One woman died and four women were seriously injured after being buried in debris while digging soil in Fitadi village of Mori Tehsil in Uttarkashi district on Wednesday. The police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and others reached the mishap site. On the directions of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the four injured women were taken by helicopter to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rishikesh.
According to local sources, Soori Singh (30), Kasturi Singh (33), Sushila Singh (35) Vipina (26) and Rajendri Singh (26) were digging soil to coat their wooden stoves and home on Wednesday morning. A piece of the mountain they were digging collapsed and buried the women in debris. On learning about the mishap, the local villagers extricated the women from the debris. Soori Singh died on the way to the community health centre in Mori. The four seriously injured women were airlifted by helicopter to AIIMS Rishikesh.
