One man died and one sustained serious injuries after they fell into a gorge near the Poku temple on the Tehri-Gangotri Road in Uttarkashi district on Sunday. The victims are Nepalese who have been identified as Suman Thapa (38) and Dil Bahadur Thapa (46), said the officials. They said that as per the eyewitnesses, some workers were carrying out construction work on columns of stones on the side of the road when a column suddenly collapsed and two workers fell into the nearby gorge.
The police called the rescue team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to conduct a search operation for the two victims. The team reached the gorge and found that one was injured while one had died. The team rescued Suman and sent him to the hospital for medical treatment besides retrieving the body of the deceased Dil Bahadur. The police said that they will hand over the body to the deceased’s family after completing the required procedure.
