Two women died, one person went missing and five were injured after a jeep carrying nine people got trapped in the Kiroda Nala in the Tanakpur area of Champawat district on Friday. The officials said that a rescue operation was launched in the stream on Friday morning after the incident was reported to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) by the Tanakpur sub divisional magistrate. Two SDRF teams led by sub inspector Manish Bhakuni were dispatched to the scene in response to the call. The first team made its way to the site by travelling 1.5 kilometres along a road, where they began rescue operations. Meanwhile, the second team initiated a search and rescue mission from the Sharda river’s end, where the stream converges, the officials said. The team stated that upon arriving at the site, the SDRF team discovered that nine people were inside the trapped vehicle. Before their arrival, the police and the locals had already rescued three people. The SDRF team, in coordination with the police and locals, managed to successfully rescue four more people after intense efforts. However, one rescued woman was found to have died on the spot, the officials added. The team worked tirelessly to locate the two missing persons and found one of them dead. The other missing person could not be found till late on Friday. The authorities have once again appealed to all to avoid going near water bodies during monsoon due to the unpredictable nature of flash floods.
