A man died and four sustained injuries after a car carrying them fell into a 200 metre deep gorge in the Chakrata area of the Dehradun district late on Saturday night. The officials said that the police received information on Saturday night that a car fell into a gorge about 200 metres off the road on the Chakrata-Tiuni motorway under Chakrata Tehsil.
The police reached the accident site and removed the victims from the gorge. All victims belong to Dehradun that include- Ayush Kansal (20), Yaman Sahni (20), Aditya Singh (20), Vasu Sahni (19) and Vinay Kashyap (38). The police said that Kashyap had died by the time his body was retrieved from the gorge while Ayush and Yaman sustained serious injuries due to which they were referred to higher centres in Dehradun. Since the remaining two victims sustained normal injuries, they are getting treatment in Chakrata, as per the officials.
Talking about the possible cause of the accident, the police said that overspeeding appears to be the main reason due to which the driver lost control of the vehicle. However they added that it would be too soon to comment anything with certainty. The police are carrying out the necessary procedures to investigate the matter, said the officials.
