In latest news from Uttarakhand, Aldaa Foundation hosted a workshop to create awareness among women police personnel working in the Police Line here during which the head of the organisation Dr Pooja Shaheen, as the keynote speaker, said that in any cancer, cells start growing abnormally. “Cervical cancer is the third most prevalent disease in the world. Cervical cancer is treatable and preventable, but due to lack of awareness, women are unable to give correct information to doctors and then treatment gets delayed which is why one woman dies every nine minutes due to it in the country,” she said.
Speaking more on the issue, she said that cancer that occurs on the cervix is called cervical cancer. “Cervical cancer is caused by HPV infection. It is a sexually transmitted virus. It spreads more in young women due to unsafe sex and other causes,” she said, adding that if one has sex with more than one partner use of condom is a must.
She said that in rural areas, women use clothes, sanitary pads for more than six hours during periods. “This can increase the risk of infection. Pay special attention to cleanliness during these days and clean the hair on virginal part with a women’s razor instead of using lotion containing chemicals,” she said.
Dr Pooja further said that to prevent this disease, the women and girls between 9 years to 42 years of age during periods should get tested every three years. “Along with women, men should also use condoms for having relations with more than one partner; otherwise men are also at risk of infection,” she added.
Speaking on the occasion, inspector of the anti-human trafficking cell Jeeto Kamboj said that women need to be alert about their rights. “If any girl, young woman or woman is sexually exploited she should immediately inform the police or call the helpline number. Actions would be taken double quick,” she added.
