The President of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad Mahant Ravindra Puri has said only 13 Akhadas established by Adi Guru Shankaracharya are recognized. His assertion comes in the wake of declaration of the former MLA of Jwalapur Haridwar, Suresh Rathore to set up a new Akhada (Ravidas Akhada).
Puri said that according to the Sanatan tradition only 13 akharas are recognized in the Kumbh Mela, apart from this, no other Akhada is recognized for taking a Shahi Snan during Kumbh. “ I have not talked to them about this matter, soon it will be discussed with those who work according to the Sanatan tradition. Only that person can become a Saint who leaves his home and walks on the path of renunciation,’’ he said.
Recently Rathore had announced creation of the Ravidas Akhada and had even appointed tainted former IFS officer Kishan Chand as General Secretary of the Akhada
