Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that sustainable development can resolve all problems. Speaking at the Sustainability Conclave organised by National Service Scheme- Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee on Friday, the CM said that development will be ascertained in the future considering the health of people and the health of the earth. “To ensure the desired development, we have to face challenges like poverty, hunger, freedom from disease and universal availability of primary education while also keeping the major issue of climate change in focus.
Earlier, after lighting the inaugural lamp, Dhami also launched the Tech-Sarthi scheme as part of celebration of 175 years of IIT Roorkee. Appreciating the conclave and its purpose, the CM also appreciated the role played by the institute’s alumni in various fields. Stressing that development can be consistent only on the basis of sustainable development and health, he also exhorted the IIT Roorkee students to dedicate their time towards development of the nation.
Speaking on the occasion, IIT Roorkee director professor Ajit K Chaturvedi said, “We are delighted that the CM launched two of our most important initiatives. While Sustainability Conclave is a timely activity by our students in NSS, Tech Sarthi is an initiative to connect the local industry with IIT Roorkee. It is hoped that Tech Sarathi will play a transformational role in upgrading our industry.”
Roorkee MLA Pradeep Batra and Mahamandaleshwar of Juna Akhada, Swami Yatindranand Giri also expressed their views on the occasion.
According to institute officials, the Tech Sarthi scheme will focus on helping industries adopt technically sound solutions, gear up their growth, and realise the objective of “local to global”. This initiative aims to audit industrial units to evaluate the current state of technology, propose practical solutions to their problems and suggest improvements to boost overall efficiency.
