Operation Night Strike: 700 questioned, 19 arrested and challans issued to 54

The Dehradun police continued Operation Night Strike across the district, during which they questioned more than 700 people, arrested 19 drivers for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and brought 27 suspected persons to police stations on the intervening night of August 29 and 30. The police said the operation was carried out amid heavy rainfall to check suspicious activities and prevent crime.
Led by circle officers, police teams carried out checking in both urban and rural areas of the district. During the drive, police questioned people found roaming unnecessarily at night. The 27 suspicious persons brought to police stations were questioned and their identities were verified.
Police also took action against people for violating rules. A total of 54 people were challaned under Section 81 of the Police Act and Rs 23,500 was collected in fines.
The police also checked for traffic violations during the operation. Nineteen drivers were arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and their vehicles were seized. Another 72 drivers were fined under the Motor Vehicles Act, with Rs 44,500 collected in fines.
The police also issued court fines to 23 drivers and seized 21 vehicles for traffic violations. Police said such checking drives would continue to prevent criminal and anti-social activities in the district.
