Operation Prahaar: Boozers in park booked & fined

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Uttarkashi

The strict action taken by Uttarkashi police against those found boozing in public places and involved ruckus-making under Operation Prahaar is showing good ground-level results.

Notably, Kotwali police, while conducting a checking drive in Joshiyara parking and park area recently, had slapped challans on four individuals under Section 81 of the Police Act.  “This is a good beginning,” said an elderly individual living close by, adding that police must see to it that these miscreants do not come back and booze openly. “What we need is continuity in police vigilance and actions,” he observed.

Police said that complaints of drunken rioting in the park area had been received in the past, prompting the special drive. They further said that the quartet had undergone medical examinations and then legal proceedings were initiated against them.

Police say that the drive still continues and they will continue to take stern policing and legal actions against the violators of the laws.  “Our actions under Operation Prahaar are principally focused on the criminals, traffic rule violators and boozers in public places,” affirmed the superintendent of police, Uttarkashi, Kamlesh Upadhyay, adding that the momentum of the drive would not slacken.  “We are determined to maintain law and order in the town,” the SP averred.
